This medicine is used to relieve stomach pain, cramps or spasms of the stomach, intestines, and gastrointestinal spasm secondary to organic disorder. It is also indicated for the treatment of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), persistent diarrhoea, flatulence, the associated abdominal cramping, similar specific and non-specific inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract. Mebeverine works by preventing nerve signals passing through to the muscle in the intestines. It helps the muscle to relax, preventing painful spasm. Colofac and Colospa act directly on the smooth muscle in the gut causing it to relax.
